The Belgian Antarctic Expedition (1897-99), led by Adrien de Gerlache, was the first Antarctic expedition to overwinter and the first of a purely scientific nature. Members included Roald Amundsen and Frederick Cook. The expedition is also noted for having taken the earliest known photographs of the Antarctic. Upon the expeditions return, 12 of these images were produced as postcards. This is the first card from this set. Scarce.
