Marco Siffredi was considered by many the world’s best snowboarder in 2001 when he made the first complete snowboard descent of Everest. But in 2002, the 23-year-old returned to Tibet and mysteriously disappeared on Everest while attempting to descend the Hornbein Couloir, an unrelentingly steep and difficult-to-access route with a high failure rate.
