Bull organized and accompanied the Norwegian sealer ‘Antarctic’ to investigate whaling opportunities in the Ross Sea (1894-95). They claimed the first landing on the Antarctic continent at Cape Adare in Victoria Land. Carsten Borchgrevink was a member and would later lead his own expedition in 1898-1900. The 11 plates are after paintings by W. G. Burn Murdoch’s book ‘From Edinburgh to the Antarctic’. This is a nice facsimile to accompany the original. Uncommon.
