The amazing story of the 1953 first ascent of Everest by Hillary and Tenzing. A signature book for any mountaineering library with a nice pair of great autographs. Eric Shipton was originally planned to be the leader of the 1953 expedition. Howard Somervell was a member of two of the early British Everest expeditions, the latter on which George Mallory disappeared. This is the UK edition of "Conquest of Everest".
The owner of this copy, Duncan Macpherson, may very well have been the same Macpherson who did a well-known sketch of a climber from the 1922 Everest expedition which was used on various ephemera. A wonderful copy!
