Borchgrevink’s British Antarctic Expedition in the ‘Southern Cross’ was composed almost entirely of Norwegians and was the first to winter over on the continent, at Cape Adare, the first to use dogs on the continent, established a new ‘furthest south’, and made the first sledge journey on the Ross Ice Shelf. Louis Bernacchi wrote of the expedition in his book ‘To the South Polar Regions’. An important early Antarctic work. Uncommon.
