SPRI 2014 Christmas Card – Shackleton Watching his Men Hauling the ‘James Caird’ Across the Ice, Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-17)

Following the sinking of the Endurance, Shackleton and his men spent six days man-hauling their three boats across the soft, broken ice of the Weddell Sea before deciding to camp and wait for drift to bring them closer to land.
