Tempting the Throne Room: Surviving Pakistan's Deadliest Climbing Season 2013

Quillen was a member of the 2013 Field Touring Alpine Broad Peak Expedition which shared both Base Camp and logistics with the five-member Iranian New Route Team. Quillen had to leave the team early to accompany his injured partner home but presents a poignant story of the cross-cultural bonding between the climbers. The 2013 Pakistan climbing season was a tragic one which saw three of the Iranians reach the summit of Broad Peak via a new route on the Southwest Face, only to perish on the descent, as well as the massacre of 11 mountaineers on nearby Nanga Parbat.
