This amazing Everest panorama, slightly over three feet wide, is composed of two side-by-side Kodachrome slides that Webster took at 9am on August 28, 1986 from Changtse, the North Peak of Everest, on a perfect, windless, and sunny morning. The slides were scanned and merged to create this unique view of Everest as seen from the north. George Mallory’s route up the North Ridge, the mountain’s second most popular line of ascent, is the rounded snow ridge one third in from the left edge.
Ed Webster, author, climber, lecturer, has seen Everest from all sides as a member of three very different teams – an attempt on the West Ridge Direct (1985) as part of a 20-member team, a solo ascent of Everest’s North Peak - Changtse (1986), and the audacious ascent of the Kangshung Face (1988) with a team of four. We are pleased to offer his terrific posters depicting all sides of the mountain.
