This facsimile reproduction of the five issues of the Adelie Blizzard newspaper gives insight into the lives of the members of Douglas Mawsons's Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-14). Over 200 pages are reproduced in their original size and colours with additional illustrations and maps. The newspaper was a collection of poetry, scientific results, observations, world news, comedy and fiction written by and for the social enjoyment of the young expeditioners during that long dark winter. It was read aloud as it was passed around between the men. Each issue was prepared on single foolscap sheets using a manual typewriter, making full use of its black, blue and red ribbons, and was enriched with numerous freehand sketches. Pencilled editorial notes and amendments by Mawson and Archie MacLean have been faithfully retained. Five issues (April – October 1913) were prepared resulting in a single copy of the Adelie Blizzard being produced; now held in the State Library of South Australia. The preface is written by Mawson's great-granddaughter Emma McEwin. This Standard Limited Edition, is hand bound in cloth, limited to 450 copies, and printed on archival quality munken pure cream 120 gsm paper.
