Masheter, known as the SilverFox to her friends, has been a research chemist, a university professor in the social sciences, and an epidemiologist for public health. At age 50, she took up high altitude mountaineering to cope with grief and anger, despite being afraid of heights. Since age 60, she has summited four of the Seven Summits – Kilimanjaro (1972), Aconcagua (2007), Everest (2008), Denali (2009), and as well as Cho Oyu (2005) and a dozen peaks in South America. This is a nicely written account of her Everest climb, and epic descent, with Adventure Consultants.
