Account of the 1957 German expedition which made the first complete ascent of Alpamayo (6100m); long regarded as one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. The first ascent had been claimed by the 1951 Franco-Belgian expedition, see Kogan’s ‘The Ascent of Alpamayo’, but they only reached the summit ridge. Uncommon. Neate H53.
King, Benjamin E (Tom) (1929 – 1985) – AAC member who wrote ‘In the Shadow of Giants: Mountain Ascents, Past and Present’ (1981), relating his climbs on Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Jungfrau, Monch, Eiger, Everest, Fuji, and the Sierra. King was killed in a fall two weeks prior to embarking on an expedition to China.
