At 15, Swarner became the only person to have ever been diagnosed with both Hodgkin’s disease and Askin’s sarcoma. . He was told twice by his doctors that he had only weeks to live with these cancers. Then in 2002, with only partial use of his lungs, he became the first cancer survivor to climb Mount Everest.
