Best remembered as the leader of the successful 1965 Indian Everest expedition, he has written a number of books on mountaineering, the Himalaya, and the Sherpas. Here he describes his early life in Pakistan, his career in the Indian Navy, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and his mountaineering career; with expeditions to Everest, Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Saser Kangri, Annapurna III, Trisuli, and Nanda Devi East.
