For the 50 anniversary of the first ascent of K2, Messner provides a history from the early explorations of Conway in 1892 thru 2004. Primary focus is placed on the expeditions of Crowley (1902), Wiessner (1939), Houston (1953), the first ascent, led by Desio, (1954), Messner’s alpine-style ascent (1979), and Kukuczka’s ascent in 1986. Appendices list all expeditions and ascentionists. In German, no English translation.
